Makeni

Makeni is the largest city in Sierra Leone's Northern Province and the administrative capital of Bombali District. It sits at the centre of a region defined by Temne and Limba culture, traditional chieftaincy, and a resilience forged through the civil war (1991-2002).

The city has seen significant reconstruction and investment since the war and is home to Njala University's northern campus, a growing business district, and a lively local market. Makeni serves as the overnight stop on Day 6 after the visit to Old Yagala, giving the group a place to rest before the Day 7 visit to Rogbonko Basketry Village.
